SetACL Studio

I am happy to announce that my tools Delprof2 and SetACL Studio are now free to use, both for individuals and corporations. Previously, Delprof2 was only free to use commercially if an organization allowed us to use their name in our marketing. SetACL Studio was not available for free at all.

Due to the strict permissions on the System Volume Information directory finding out its true size is not easy. Explorer is really bad at such things. It definitely was not made for administrative tasks. It displays the directory size as zero bytes:

Sometimes it is good not to know the truth, but as an administrator you better know what is going on! Most IT pros know that Explorer lies a lot (on a German system C:\Users magically becomes C:\Benutzer), but few are aware that Windows’ permission handling dialog ACL Editor also tends to “pretty up” things.

SetACL Studio is a management tool for nearly every aspect of Windows permissions. It works with the file system, the registry, printers, services, shares and WMI objects. It supports very long paths (the kind Explorer cannot handle) and shows you every corner of the system, regardless of current permissions. About all that I have written before.

SetACL is well-known as a powerful and versatile tool for managing permissions in nearly all corners of the Windows operating system. In fact it is so powerful that the command-line options may be overwhelming at first. But, hey, power comes at a price, right?
