Half a Million Downloads of SetACL

Last month SetACL reached the magic number of 500,000 downloads. That is a lot, especially for a command-line tool which is focused on a very specific aspect of system administration.

It took roughly nine years to get from 0 to 500,000. During that time people from 194 different countries visited SetACL’s web site. Those are 99% of all countries on this planet (the total number of countries depends on how you count - the best number seems to be 196).

Countries with most downloads:

  1. United States
  2. Germany
  3. United Kingdom
  4. France
  5. Netherlands
  6. Japan
  7. Canada
  8. Australia
  9. China
  10. Russia

As can be seen from the statistic, a country’s position depends mainly on its development and the level at which English is spoken (SetACL’s web site and the UI are English only).

The month with the most activity was March 2010 with 23,263 downloads.

Now on to the next 500,000!

ParseCitrixLicense Now Supports XenDesktop Licenses, Too

A few weeks ago I published the tool ParseCitrixLicense which displays the contents of Citrix license files in a human-readable form. The original version 1.0 did not support XenDesktop licenses, for the simple reason that I had none to test my program with. Recently my colleague Nicholas Dille provided me with a XenDesktop eval license which I used to implement the missing tags in ParseCitrixLicense. Please see for yourself what ParseCitrixLicense extracts from a XenDesktop license file.
