Some of the Best Splunk Marketing Slogans Extracted from Splunk.exe
If you have ever been to a conference with a Splunk booth you will have noticed their t-shirts. They are all black with a cool slogan printed in white.
When you have been working with Splunk for some time you will notice that it has a very powerful commandline tool, splunk.exe
. You can use that to tell Splunk’s deployment server component that one or more apps have changed, for example, with this command: splunk.exe reload deploy-server
.
Hidden Gems in Splunk.exe
You can also restart Splunk with splunk.exe restart
. The first thing Splunk does when starting is to print one of the cool marketing slogans. So I figured there must be a list of those slogans stored in splunk.exe
. With the help of Sysinternals’ strings
tool I extracted the strings stored in splunk.exe
found these slogans. Enjoy!
Splunk> The IT Search Engine.
Splunk> Be an IT superhero. Go home early.
Splunk> Needle. Haystack. Found.
Splunk> CSI: Logfiles.
Splunk> All batbelt. No tights.
Splunk> Finding your faults, just like mom.
Splunk> Australian for grep.
Splunk> 4TW
Splunk> See your world. Maybe wish you hadn’t.
Splunk> Like an F-18, bro.
Splunk> Now with more code!
Splunk> Winning the War on Error
Splunk> The Notorious B.I.G. D.A.T.A.
Splunk> Map. Reduce. Recycle.
Splunk> Take the sh out of IT.
Splunk> CENSORED
I am not sure if the last one is one of the marketing slogans, though.
More Slogans
A little while after I posted this article I found that there are more slogans used on this web page:
Splunk> see the forest, and the trees
Splunk> data with destiny
Splunk> see the light before you tunnel
What Else?

The “CENSORED” one is actually what will show if you set OFFENSIVE=less in splunk-launch.conf
More info: http://answers.splunk.com/answers/75147/how-to-disable-splunk-launch-messages
A little piece of me dies everytime I see someone who has set OFFENSIVE=less
“When it comes to log management it is a Slam Splunk.”
“Get out of your Funk, get Splunk!”
Honestly, you guys shouldn’t ask IT people for marketing input. This is what you get.
“Weapon of a security warrior”
“Log I am your father”
“Looking for trouble”
Those are the ones I have on my Tshirts
“Because you can’t always blame Canada”
“More brain, less surgery”
Also on T-shirts.
Nice One
I had a beer can sleeve from one conference ages ago (splunk 3/4 era) that read Splunk> Rhymes with drunk
Good digging. Thanks. :-)
